Category: David and Erica: Major Angst (at least this part) Set about a year in the future!
Summary: A heart to heart, and a confession four and a half years in the making, that will change everything forever. Two parts, only cause I want to have something posted tonight.lol
Rating: PG-13 for a few bad words
-OK, this is not going to be pretty (no fluff like my last one) at least not this part.lol To put it nicely, these two have a lot of shit they need to work through, before they could even think about getting back together. The last four years haven't been pretty and if I'm gonna do this, I'm gonna do this right. So ya, it's gonna get a little nasty, but I promise the end will justify the means.-
Dedicated to Alli- Because "Once on the Rug" was her idea! I just ran with it! LMAO!
Part I
" No way am I letting you leave. Not until the rain slows down, or stops." David told her with a smile, still standing in front of the door.
Erica shot him a less then amused glare, " Since when you do tell me what I can and can't do?" She asked, trying to sound angry at him, but failing to hide the smile playing on her lips.
" Since you came here in tears." He replied, smiling at her.
" I don't know why I came here in the first place." She mused sadly, shaking her head.
" Because you wanted to rant to someone who would take your side over Jack's." He told her, stepping towards her, " And despite everything that's happened between us, you know that I'm always on your side. Always." He told her with grin, walking around her, towards the table.
She smiled to herself, turning around to face him. " Still, I shouldn't have come here."
" Erica," He started, handing her, her cup of coffee, " There's absolutely no reason that you shouldn't be here. There's nothing wrong with two friends discussing their constant relationship failures, and unlimited heartbreak."
" Hmmm." She mused, taking a sip of her coffee, " Heartbreak seems to the be story of my life."
" Mine too." He added, both of their faces filled with mirrored sadness.
" It never works out, never. I really thought Jack and I would last, that we could make it through anything." She mused, looking down at her cup, her eyes refusing to meet his, " But I failed, again."
" From what you've told me, and from what I've seen, you didn't fail, Erica. The divorce is not your doing." He tried to reassure her, but failed as he heard a few soft sobs, before she nodded. " Erica, look at me."
She didn't move for a few seconds, before slowly raising her head, her tear-filled eyes meeting his.
" Jack loved the idea of you, Erica. But he didn't like you. He's spent so long trying to change you, take away those little sparks of life that make you so amazing that he never go the chance to celebrate what makes you, you."
She smiled at him through her tears, truly grateful for his words, " Thank you, David."
He nodded, running his free hand through his hair, " You don't have to thank me, Erica. I'm not paying you lip service, I'm just telling you how it is. Jack is a decent man Erica, but he never loved you completely and unconditionally, and none of that is your doing. And you deserve a man who loves you, who loves and accepts all of you."
" Like you?" She asked, the words leaving her before she even had a chance to think. " I mean," She started, trying to think of anything to take back what she'd just said.
He didn't say anything, or move, he just looked at her, studying her expression, " Like me." He replied softly, " I think that's why we still have this connection, I guess I just get you, huh?" He asked with a hesitant laugh.
" It's always been that way. As crazy as it sounds, I think you understand me better then any other man." She admitted softly.
" Ya, we'll, I've always believed that we are two of a kind." He told her with a smile.
" Hmm, I think that's where a lot of our problems stemmed from. We're so much alike..."
" And so different." David finished for her.
Erica nodded, smiling at the fact that he could still finish her sentences. They were definitely still connected and would probably always be.
" We weren't all bad." David added, watching her smile grow, as they both flashed back.
" No, no when things were good, they were amazingly good." She smiled fondly.
" But when they were bad..." He said, both of their smiles seem to fade at the same time.
" They were bad." She finished sadly.
They both nodded, enjoying but also feeling the sadness of their brief trip down memory lane. They both fell silent, lost in there thoughts. It wasn't until Erica's eyes drifted out the window that, she spoke again.
" The rain seems to be slowly, that means I can leave, doesn't it?" She teased, thankful for the change in subject.
David turned his head and looked out the window, shaking his head before he looked back at her, " Not yet. Still to wet out there. I don't think you're calmed down enough to drive home yet."
" And what happens when Krystal comes home, and finds me here?" She challenged.
" Krystal," He started, shaking his head, " doesn't know where her heart is. As far as I know, she's crashing with Babe and Jamie, or maybe Tad. I really don't care at the moment." He told her.
" Trouble in paradise?"
" Isn't there always?" He replied with a dry laugh.
She nodded, " Maybe love isn't all it's cracked up to be. All it seems to do is end in heartache."
" Do you regret it all the times you've loved and lost?" David asked curiously.
" No, no." She said honestly, " I think everyone who I've loved has helped to shape my heart and my life. I wouldn't trade any of it for anything."
" I feel the same way." He started, " Loving you was the best and worst thing I ever did." He said, the words tumbling out.
" Best and worst?" She asked curiously.
He nodded hesitantly, refusing to look at her, " You taught me how to love, how to give my whole heart and soul to someone. How feel with my heart, and not always listen to my head."
She closed her eyes, fighting back the tears that were suddenly welling in her eyes. " And the worst?"
" Because I..." He stopped himself, not ready to deal with the consequences of admitting the truth.
" Because you what?" She asked softly.
He shook his head, and finally looked at her, " It's not important." He told her with a smile, " How about we put on a movie or something, help pass the time?"
She shook her head vehemently, " How about you tell me why loving me was the worst thing that has ever happened to you?"
" It's really not relevant. And I think we should move on to other topics. Reminiscing isn't getting us anywhere." He told her, trying with everything he had to get her to back off this topic.
" David, I can see right through you. Tell me why loving me was so bad." She told him again, this time there hint of anger in her voice.
" Erica..." He started, but she cut him off before he could say anything else.
" What was so horrible about me?" She asked, the anger rising in he voice.
" Nothing. You were the best thing that ever happened to me, alright?" He fired back at her, a bit more bitingly then he'd intended. " And you were the worst thing to happen to me..." He took a deep breath, " Because of this." He said motioning around the room.
" This?" She responded, completely confused.
" Come on, Erica, this is where we end up, always. No matter what, we always have each other's backs."
" You're saying that you still love me?" She challenged, knowing exactly what he meant.
He laughed back at her, " How in the hell did we get into this?"
" Do you love me, David?" She asked, point blank, taking a step towards him.
He didn't respond, he just turned his head, and refused to look at her.
" Now you go quiet on me?" She laughed back at him, " Answer me David?"
He shook his head, " I'm not going there with you, Erica, I can't."
" Or you won't." She challenged, " What are you afraid of David?"
" I will not get into this with you." He told her, firmly.
" You're afraid that I'll walk out on you, hmmm? That I'll tell you that I don't still love you. That I don't want to be in your arms again?" She asked, pointedly, " If that's what you're afraid of, then I have to ask where the hell that connection of ours is? Damn it David, I still love you."
The room went silent, David didn't move and Erica's mouth fell open.
" I umm..." She started, not willing to face what she'd just admitted. " I'm gonna go, thank you for listening."
" Gonna run, just like always?" He asked her, watching with a smile has she whipped back around.
" What the hell is that supposed to mean?" She asked, closing the distance between them.
" Why do you think I didn't say anything, Erica?" He asked her, " Look around us. Look at the last four years. Those words don't change anything Erica, it just makes things more complicated."
" We have always been complicated, David." She fired back, if they were going to do this, they were going to do it right. " I have every reason to hate you, to want to see you suffer, but I don't. Do you have any idea what it's like to love someone as much as you hate them?"
" Hurts like hell." He responded, the honesty in his voice sending chills down her spine.
" You kept my granddaughter from me, from her mother. You lied, and changed test results to get Miranda into this world, and then you just turn our back on her." She fired at him, her voice filled with anger.
" I did. And I will spend the rest of my life living with the guilt of what I did. I can't take it back." He spit back equally angry.
" Is that supposed to be some sort of apology?" She asked waiting for him to respond.
" No." He responded, angrily.
" You lie to me, and you don't even have the decency to say you're sorry?"
" What does sorry do? It doesn't change anything. I can't take it back. We can either dwell on it, or move on. Your choice."
" My choice? My choice?" She yelled at him, " My choice is to make you feel what you did, David. To make you understand all the pain you caused."
" Haven't I suffered enough, Erica?" He yelled back at her.
" Not nearly. You deserve everything you got, and then some." She said, turning on her heels to and walking to the door.
David didn't say anything, watching as she stormed towards the door. He was going to let her go, he didn't need her. He shook his head, who the hell was he kidding, he loved her.
" You think I don't love you? You don't think that I want nothing more then to take you in my arms and kiss you senseless?" He practically yelled.
She didn't say anything, she just stood with her back to him, her hand on the doorknob. But if he'd stopped to listen, he would have heard her soft sobs.
David took a deep breath and steadied himself, anger wasn't going to get here to stay with him. " Erica, please...don't go." He said softly, his voice laced with fear, fear of losing her again, fear of her walking out that door, fear of her turning around and telling him to go to hell. " Just let me say what I need to, and then if you want to go, you can."
