Chapter 1
Two weeks later, and they were starting to find some sense of normalcy. Well, as much normalcy as they could get, considering.
Luke was doing amazing. He was healing better then anyone expected. His heart was almost functioning completely at normal capacity. He was running, playing, being a normal five year old. He loved the park, and to be outside. They'd signed him up for baseball, and he was starting swimming lessons in a few days. David was going teaching him how to ride a bike. It was to late in the year to put him into Kindergarten, but Erica and David were already starting to prepare him for the next year. Luke was well ahead of his peers, he'd started writing at 31/2 and was reading by 4. He was probably ready for the first grade, despite the fact that he'd never been to school.
Things between David and Luke were falling into place surprisingly quickly. Luke seemed to understand what was going on. The change in daddy's hadn't seemed to affect him all that much. Erica rationalized that it was because Jack and Luke hadn't been all that close to begin with. But they both wondered if it was more then that. If somehow, Luke had always had a feeling that part of him was missing, and that now he'd found it. He loved David, and David loved him. They were bonding like all fathers and sons do, yet they were still going slow. Feeling this whole father son thing out as they went. Taking it one day at a time.
Erica wasn't fairing as well. She was only six weeks into the pregnancy, and was already having terrible bouts with morning sickness, which in her case was morning, noon and night sickness. She was used to it, from when she was pregnant with Luke, but all the added emotion drama was making things almost unbearable for her. David and Luke were doing the best that they could to take care of her, and keep her rested, but it was hard with her being in the middle of a messy divorce. She let Jack go without a fight, despite the fact that she still loved him very much. She couldn't ask him to forgive her for lying about Luke, for cheating on him, for ending up pregnant, so she wouldn't. She'd pick up the pieces of her life, and move on. She had to be strong, for Luke and for the new life she was going to bring into the world.
Jack and Erica were already in the process of getting a divorce. Jack hadn't wasted anytime, he'd moved himself, Lily and Reggie out of the house the morning after the truth about Luke and Erica's pregnancy had come out. Divorce papers had arrived for Erica just a few days after Luke came home from the hospital. It was already messy, with Jack threatening to reveal all about Erica's pregnancy if she contested the divorce. He was angry, heartbroken, even bitter and while everyone knew that he still loved Erica, and that was the only reason that he was keeping quiet about Erica's pregnancy. But he was betrayed in the worst possible ways and it was only normal that he would act out, in terms of Luke.
David and Erica were still in limbo. Neither was sure of their feelings, or at least admit to their feelings. It was a hard thing to move past, for David that he'd missed five years of his sons life, and it was hard for Erica to have to continually deal with her guilt. Neither was ready to forgive and forget, but they were willing to talk things through and make peace, for the good of their children. They were going to take it one day at time. See how things developed and do their best to be a family, for Luke.
Today was their day. A day free of the press and of the drama of life. A day for just the three of them...four of them, to enjoy life and relax. For Luke it was one of the greatest days of his life, a trip to watch his first ever baseball game. David and Luke had convinced Erica to come with them, and they'd even gotten her to put on a Phillies t-shirt and hat. They planned to enjoy the day for it was worth, and leave the drama that was their lives behind, and have fun.
Unfortunately, mother nature had other plans.
Erica held the door open, as David and Luke came through, Luke on his daddy's back. " That was great, Mommy." Luke laughed, shaking out his wet hair.
Erica laughed, at looked at David and Luke, who just like her were soaked. They'd been at the game, having a wonderful time, when some of darkest rain clouds they'd seen in years rolled in. An inning later, and the skies opened up, and it poured rain.
" It was pretty fun." David said, sliding Luke from his back, around to his chest and holding him close, " Sorry, your first baseball game got rained out."
Luke smiled, " It was a great, daddy." He smiled, and hugged David close. " I want to go back tomorrow."
David laughed, " You're going to start playing your own games soon, that will be even more fun."
" That's right, and when we can be sure it won't rain, we'll take you to another game." Erica smiled, and Luke nodded. " How about you go get out of those wet clothes? change into your pajama's and I'll make you some hot chocolate and read you a story before bed.'
Luke's face lit up, " Will you read me a Spiderman story?" He beamed, his brown eyes shining bright.
" Whatever you want." She smiled, trying her best not to drip to much on the carpet.
He nodded and looked at David, " Will you stay too?" He asked.
David looked over Luke's shoulder at Erica, who had an unreadable conflicted expression on her face.
" I don't know buddy..." David started, but Erica cut him off,
" I think that's a wonderful idea, baby." She smiled at Luke, " Now go get out of those clothes before you catch a cold."
" Okay mommy." He nodded, hugging David quickly, before David set him down. " The Green Goblin isn't in this book daddy. So we won't be scared." He said, smiling as he turned away from them and ran to his room.
Erica shook her head as she looked over at David. " I haven't seen him smile like that in...." She started trying to remember the last time she'd seen him smile like that that, " never. I've never seen him smile like that."
" Ya, he seemed to be having the time of his life." David smiled, " I just wish it wouldn't have rained."
Erica laughed, " David it could have snowed, and it wouldn't have dampened this day for him. This was something he's always wanted." She smiled, " Thank you. He needed this."
" We all needed this." He relied, " It was nice to just get away for awhile."
" Leave life at the door." She said, nodding, " It's just a shame we had to come back to reality."
" Not all things are about reality are a shame." He smiled, his eyes falling to her still flat stomach.
She smiled and looked down at her stomach, moving a hand to rest over their baby. " Ummm..." She breathed, " Our little trouble maker here, is definitely something to smile about."
He laughed lightly and took a step towards her, " A little clarity in all the haze."
Erica nodded, Luke was her light, and this child was her clarity. She smiled to herself as the perfect name for their child if she was girl came to her.
" What?" David asked noting her smile.
She just looked at him, and smiled. " Nothing. I um, I better go check on our other miracle."
He nodded, " I'll make the hot chocolate. You need to change too. I don't want you to get sick."
" Nagging is not attractive David." She teased, playfully rolling her eyes as she went to check on Luke.
__________
" Hey, where's Luke?" David asked from the kitchen counter, as he poured the hot water into their cups.
" He's asleep." She smiled. " Had his pajama bottoms on, but he only managed to get one arm in before he fell asleep."
David laughed lightly, " Poor little guy wore himself out."
" I just hope he'll stay asleep. With all that sugar he had." She shook her head, and took a mug off the counter, " Really David, you shouldn't have let him have all that sugar. He doesn't handle sugar well, and will probably be up bouncing off the walls in a few hours."
" Erica, it wasn't that much sugar." He laughed shaking his head, " He had some cotton candy and candy bar."
" That's more then I let him have in a week." She laughed.
" He's a little boy, little boys love sugar." He told her, smiling over his shoulder.
" He gets that from you." She shot back playfully.
" Me?" He laughed, " You who would eat chocolate for breakfast had I not been there to stop you."
She laughed, and he turned around. " I thought you were going to change?" He said, taking a few steps towards her.
" I will." She said, " I just wanted to get Luke all settled and...."
" And what?" He asked, noticing that she seemed to tense up when he got closer. " Erica?"
" This was a lovely day, David." She said, refusing to look at him.
" Is that a polite way of telling me to get lost?" He asked, looking down at her, " If you want me to leave, Erica, just tell me."
" I don't want you to go, David." She admitted, " It's just highly inappropriate for you to be here."
" Why?" He asked pointedly.
" Well for one, you're still soaking wet, and you could get sick just as much as Luke and I could." She started, half rambling, half talking, trying her damnedest to push the feelings that were fluttering around inside of her, back down, bury them deep down where they'd been for years.
" Doctors don't get sick." He shot back, with a teasing smile.
" Well, I'm exhausted." She said, " This pregnancy is already taking a lot out of me. We both have to get up early in the morning..."
" Subtly was never your strong suit, Erica." He said shaking his head, " Forgive me for wanting to make sure that the mother of my children and my son were tucked in safe for the night."
" David...."She started, shaking her head, " I didn't mean it like that, I just...."
" Ya I know." He said, " Tell Luke that I love him, and I'll see him tomorrow." He said, shaking his head, as he headed for the kitchen door.
" David wait, I...." She said, taking a step towards him. But that was all she took, as a sudden wave of dizziness washed over her. Now their child decided to give her trouble.
David was at her side before she could blink, " Erica?"
" Fine, just a little...' She stopped, reaching out and holding onto him so she could steady herself.
" Come here." He said, moving them a little and sitting her down on the edge of the table, since it was the closet thing to her.
She closed her eyes, and breathed through the dizzy spell as David took her wrist and checked her pulse.
" Your pulse is returning to normal." He said after a few seconds.
She nodded and opened her eyes, " Yes of course it is. I just got a little dizzy."
" You have to take it easy Erica." He started.
" You're the one who dragged me to the game." She breathed, with a sigh.
He shook his head, and was just about to counter when he stopped to look at her. He'd forgotten how adorable she was. Not just beautiful and sexy, but utterly adorable. The way she was looking back at him, her big brown eyes, shining. A smile that could melt the coldest heart. She had Luke's hat on, it was tipped sideways, and her hair was starting to curl from being wet. She took his breath away.
" David?" She said softly looking up at him, " Everything alright?"
He barely heard her, as he took a step towards her. Her face filled with confusion, as he raised a few light fingers to her cheek.
" David...I, what...." She breathed, her eyes locking with his.
He shook his head, and raised another hand to her face, so that he was holding her beautiful face in his hands. He knew what he was doing, he knew what the next step was, and he knew to run, get the hell out of there before they both did something they couldn't take back. But he was powerless. Like fate itself was pushing him. Driving him to do this, even though he knew it was the last thing they needed.
" David...." She started again, but what words would have followed were cut off by his lips, as he pressed them to hers.
Erica froze. Her lips still against his. She didn't fight him. She didn't want to fight him. She wanted this. She'd wanted this since the last time they'd made love. He'd haunted her dreams every night since. She could still feel his hands as they burned their way across her body, she could still taste his lips on hers.
David took a step and Erica gasped against his lips when he stopped, his body positioned between her legs. David keep his hands where they were, holding her luminous face in his hands. Still keeping their kiss tender and sweet. He was taking this slow, savoring this moment. She was already in his mind, and his heart every time he breathed, but he wanted to get back to the place where he could taste her lips, feel her hands all over him. He wanted her to haunt him with every breath.
Erica moaned softly against his lips, and smiled before tipping her head back slightly, and kissing him with all she had.
Slow, why was he taking this slow? He wondered silently, trying to remember why he wanted to go slow, not rush into this, like they had that night at the hospital. But her hands were trailing their way up his neck, and were just about to make their way into his hair. And all rational thoughts he had, were being drowned out by the fell of her touch.
He loved when she did that. Ran her fingers through his hair. Slow and soft, filled with love. God, what she did to him. He moaned, and slid a hand down around her back, pressing her body to his. There was no space between them, and they were breathing as one.
Neither was willing to stop this, though they both knew they had too. They couldn't do this, not again. Not now. Not where they were with each other. Not with the everything that was happening to them. Luke, the baby, Erica's impending divorce. There was still so many bad feelings between them about the baby swap. They were so...scattered with their feelings. Things were complicated enough as they were. They had to stop this. Had to pull away and run the hell away.
But they couldn't.
Erica sighed contently, and melted into him, not caring anymore what the consequence of this would be. He made her feel alive, made her feel safe, made her feel like the drama of the world around them couldn't touch her.
David kissed her breathless. Deep and hard. The kind of kiss that tingled down every part of your spine, and into your toes. And seared into your soul. His lips were all over hers, tugging and pulling, and she couldn't do anything but whatever he asked of her.
She tipped moaned softly, pressing her body into his. He nearly growled, and reluctantly moved his lips off of hers. He pulled back at her, and looked deep into her eyes, smiling at the desire he saw mirrored there. He laughed lightly, and leaned in to place a tender kiss on her forehead.
Erica closed her eyes, and smiled as his lips started their familiar trail down the side of her face. His lips were soft against her skin, and she was almost trembling with anticipation. What he did to her...
Erica slid an arm around his neck, her head tipped back, and her eyes closed, as she reviled in the feel of his lips nipping and biting along her neck. Her hands seemed to have a mind of their own, as they made there way to the buttons of his shirt.
He gasped, caught off guard by her actions. But he was just as quick on his feet, or make that with his lips as she was with her hands, stopping them just over the sensitive spot at the base of her neck. She stilled instantly, just like he knew she would. She held her breath, and moved her body under his. He laughed against her skin, and she shivered. He finally did as he knew she wanted, and bit gently. She moaned and moved her hips against his, her fingers going to work on the buttons of his shirt.
" In a hurry, aren't we?" David laughed against her skin.
She sighed playfully, working the first few buttons free, " Everything wet has to come off." She breathed, smiling wickedly as she popped a few other buttons free.
David smiled against her skin, remembering back to that day, so long ago, when he's said that to her. He loved her way back then, he realized was more then willing to play by her rules, but that didn't mean she was going to make this easy for her. He pushed her back against the table a little more, and quickly moved his lips back to hers. He kissed her hard and fast, and launched his on assault with his hands. Starting them at her thighs, and moving them slowly.
Erica was withering under him, and begged him softly, to stop their game, and to really touch her.
He stopped his hands, at the edge of her jeans, and pulled her t-shirt free. She gasped as his hands instantly found there way under them. They both froze as his hands found her bare stomach, and the realization that his hand were resting over a tiny life, that they'd created, hit them both. He reluctantly broke their kiss, and looked into her eyes, smiling a smile that made her knees weak. " Erica..." He started, softly.
But she shook her head, and smiled, pressing her lips to his. He didn't have to say it, and part of her didn't want him to say it, so she kissed him instead. Letting him say with his lips, what he couldn't say with this words.
This kiss was even better then the others, if that were possible. And she was having trouble controlling her breathing, as he trialed his hands slowly along the bare flesh of her stomach. She nearly scrammed when his hands fond her breasts. He was meticulous in his heavenly assaulting, running soft fingers, so soft that he was barely touching, over her nipples.
He laughed against her lips, biting on her lower lip, enticing a near purr out of her. He worked the shirt free and intended to pull it over her head, when she stopped him, lowering her arms, and shaking her head. She lowered her arms, and pulled out of their kiss.
" David, we...." She said, trying to break free from the haze of his kiss long enough to say this, " we can't do this."
David's heart dropped and his body tested as he stared at her, not sure what to say back to her, " Erica, I..."
" We can't do this here, David." She added, chewing on her bottom lip, and flashing him a wicked grin. " Luke might get up and...." She didn't ever get to finish, as he pulled his hands free from her shirt, and lifted her into his arms.
He wasted no time, kissing her fiercely as he walked them towards her bedroom.
They were almost there, when Erica's constant moving of her hips against his, got to be to much, and he backed her up against the hallway wall. He buried his head in her neck, and she clung to him, arms around his neck, her head tipped to the side. Her legs were wrapped around his waist, and she was sure drive hers into his ever now and then, knowing he was having a hard time keeping control.
" God..." He breathed into the spot on her neck that he was currently sucking on, and pushed her back against the wall. His hands were playing at the edge of her jeans, one hand working the button free.
" David..." She half moaned, half said, " Luke...." She reminded him.
He nodded reluctantly, resting his head on her shoulder, he moved her into his arms again, and they were crashing through her bedroom door way a few seconds later. David moved them to the foot of her bed quickly. David laid her down gently, and looked down a her, smiling a love filled smile, despite his best intentions to keep his feelings out of things. Erica closed her eyes, and smiled softly as he laid down on top of her...she held her breath as she waited for him lips on hers.
That was the last thought either of them had before pure sensation took over. Erica made quick work of the last two buttons on David's shirt, and ran her nails down his chest, after she finished. He groaned against her lips, and evened up the score by pulling her shirt over her head. She was wearing a red lace bra, to match the Phillies shirt, he reasoned, but a part of him still wondered if this there was more to it then that.
Erica pressed her hips into his, at the feel of his hands all over her. He was good, god he was good. It was always a wonder to her how his hands could be somewhere one second, and be flicking over one of her nipples only moments later. His hands were like a gift from god.
It was Erica's turn to groan, when his lips left hers. She was about to protest when he pressed a soft kiss into the edge of her jeans. She held her breath, knowing what was next. He kissed just above her belly button next. Leaving his lips there for a few extra seconds, before placing another kiss there. Kisses for her, and there baby, she realized, moving a hand into his hair. She closed her eyes, and fought back tears, and pains of guilt over Luke...intent to feel nothing but the pleasure of his kisses.
He trails his lips higher now, and snaked his arms around her back. Moving them in sync with his hands. She nearly screamed, when he popped the clasp of her bra, at the same moment he placed a kiss between her breasts.
He laughed lightly nipping at her throat before moving his lips back to hers.
There was no more games from that point on. Just mindless kisses, and roaming hands.
David was free of his jeans a few seconds later, and was back on top of her now, where she could do nothing but wither under him, as he flicked his tongue over a nipple, before he finally removed his boxer brief.
David pulled her to him, and they were skin to skin, body to body, breathing as one. He kissed her one more time, before his lips were back on a particularly delicate spot on her collar bone. He took her hands in his, and raised them over her head.
She held her breath, and shuttered under him, moaning softly as he slowly eased into her. She gasped, holding him close, and raking her nails down his back as he moved.
They wanted this to be slow and tender. Want to make love to each other, but it was obvious very quickly that wasn't going to happen.
Their rhythm was hard and fast, and so intense that they were already breathless. Erica moved her hips against his, and he growled, knowing that she was just as willing as he was to get even more lost to each other.
She arched her back, and moved her hips again, faster this time. She got a deep, throaty cry of her name out of him at that, and repeated her movements. He didn't care that she was in control, or that she was taking him as her prisoner. All he knew was that she was taking him higher then he'd been in years.
He pushed her back against the bed, and she closed her eyes, holding onto him with all he had as her release hit, and everything in her tore loose, and she shuttered under him.
That was all it took, the feel of her shuttering under him, to send him crashing over the edge. He sucked on her neck, and moved one hand down around her back to hold her closely, giving into his own release.
This was his favorite place in the world, lost inside of her. Lost so deeply to her that he couldn't leave if he tried. Losing her before had almost cost him his freedom, and there was so much more at risk this time. So much more. But it was a risk worth he was ready to take.
To be continued....
