Chapter 5

David dropped his head and rested his forehead on Erica’s shoulder, still holding her close. He was gasping for breaths, and trying to ride his release.

Erica’s eyes were still closed, and her body still pressed against his. She was having trouble breathing as her release lingered over her. Her toes were still tingling and she couldn’t feel her legs yet.

David kissed her shoulder a few times as his lips made their but her throat and along her jaw line.

She drew in a strangled breath as his lips hovered over hers. She smiled inspite of herself as he pressed his lips to hers in a deep and sucking kiss.

It was only second later when they had to pull away, not because they wanted too, but because they needed to catch their breath.

David opened his eyes slowly, and smiled at down at her, not bothering to move.

Erica took a few deep breaths, and turned her head back so when her eyes finally fluttered open she’d be face to face with him.

David laughed lightly and flashed her his most wicked grin, enjoying the glazed look in her eyes. “ I knew you were lying.” He smiled, and kissed her forehead quickly.

She inhaled sharply, before shaking her head, and pushing him off of her. “ Don’t flatter yourself.” She shot at him, but she was painfully fighting back a smile.

“ Admit it, Erica.” He smiled at her, as he finally pulled away from her. “ Admit that what we just shared, is as good as it gets.”

She shook her head defiantly, and slowly started to pull herself together. “ Admit what, David?” She hissed, shaking her as she slid her dress strap back over her shoulder. “ That had a moment of weakness and let you take advantage of me, ha, not likely.” She breathed, mumbling under her breath as she fixed her dress.

David laughed, and shook his head as he buttoned his pants. “ I took advantage of you?” He said, smiling at her, as he took a step back towards her. “ You were the one who begged me to make love to you, right here, right now.”

She closed her eyes, and shook her head slowly, pressing herself against the wall, so that their bodies weren’t touching again. “ I lost my head.” She breathed, refusing to look at him. “ And you weren’t any help.” She said, she was rambling and she knew it. But she would be damned if she let know that she was still reeling, and that if he touched her again, there was no way she could guarantee that she could walk away from him.

“ What did you want me to do, Erica?” He asked, raising his hand to her cheek, before tipping her head back towards him.

“ Well, not that.” She said softly.

He nodded, “ There’s nothing we can do now. It happened.” He smiled, “ And we both enjoyed it…”

“ Don’t be disgusting.” She sighed, “ I’m still married, David.”

He shook his head, and glanced at his watch on his other hand, which was currently on her waist. “ It’s just after midnight in Pine Valley, you’re divorce is final.”

“ Fine.” She said back to him, finally looking into his eyes, “ But I still hate you.”

“ I expected as much.” He said, moving in closer to her, “ And I expect you to hate me the next time we have sex.” He said softly, his lips hovering over hers.

“ Don’t flatter yourself.” She said, and pushed him away half heartily , “ What happened here…” She said shaking her head, “ was a mistake. And it will never, ever, happen again.” She said, trying to push herself out from under him.

He nodded firmly and pushed her back against the wall, leaning in. “ You can’t help it, Erica. You’re addicted to me. I’m in your system. Like a drug that you can’t get enough of.” He breathed in her ear.

“ Maybe that’s true in your warped mine. But if I never see you again, it’ll be too soon.” She shot at him, desperate to get him to move. She was losing it slowly. Being pressed between the wall and his body. His lips were so close to hers and she could almost taste him.

“ We’ll see.” He said, and finally took a step back.

She moved out from underneath, “ Keep your distance, David.” She said, “ I don’t know why this happened, but it will never happen again.” She said over her shoulder, as she started to walk away.

David shook his head, and watched her walk away. God, she was so damn stubborn. She mad him want to scream. Punch something. She made him want to take her in his and kiss her until he couldn’t think straight. Damn her. He shook his head, and finally started after her. This was going to be a very long, two weeks.

Chapter 6

Part I

The walk back to the Facsinella’s was silent. Erica made sure that she was a “safe” distance from David the whole walk, but was careful not to get to far ahead of him, where he couldn’t see her. She didn’t want to get mugged, she just didn’t want him within breathing distance of her. There was no telling what might happen if he was to close to her.

“ So that’s it? You’re just going to give me the silent treatment for the next two weeks?” David said quietly, as he held open the door to the Facsinella’s for her.

Erica nodded, her back to him. “ I told you earlier…before our mistake, that I have nothing more to say to you, and I meant it.”

He shook his head, and pushed past her, just as she was about to turn down the hallway. “ I don’t think so.” He said, blocking her way down the hall. “ I’m sorry but you are not going to walk away from me and pretend like nothing happened.”

She shook her head, and tried to push past him. “ Nothing happened David.” She said, “ I had a moment of weakness and I let you take advantage of me.”

“ You are a piece of work.” He laughed, “ Fine, go ahead, Erica pretend nothing happened.” He told her smiling wickedly. “ Go to your room,” He said stepping closer to her, “ get into bed and close your eyes.” He breathed, his lips suddenly hovering over hers, “ And try to make yourself believe that you can’t still taste my lips. Feel my hands. That you don’t ache to feel me inside of you.” He breathed, smiling victoriously as she closed her eyes and drew in a strangled breath. “ I give you an hour.”

Her eyes shot open, and burned into his. “ Bastard.” She spit out, her face filled with anger. Not that she was angry that he said what he said, no she was angry that he figured her out. Damn him. “ You are a disgusting pig.” She shot back, her voice laced with so much fire and passion that shutters ran down both their spines. “ I hate you and I will never let you anywhere near me again.”

He just smiled, and laughed at her, “ One hour.” He breathed, before he crushed his lips to hers.

She fought him for a second of two, before her body molded to his. It was hungry, and needy and they were both consumed by it only seconds later. David wrapped his arms around her, and pulled her close.

They were crashing down the hall a few seconds later. They finally came to a stop at the door to Erica’s room, when David pressed her back against it. He pressed his hips against hers, and his knee against her waist, as he kissed her breathless. His tongue traced a fiery trail along her still closed lips.

Her eyes shot open at that, and she pried her lips from his before she shoved him off of and away from her.

David smiled at her, shaking his head as he looked in her lust filled brown eyes. “ Make that thirty minutes.”

“ You make me sick.” She hissed, feeling for the doorknob with her hand. “ Don’t fool yourself into believing for one second that I will ever want to do anything more to you then punch you.” She shot at him, her tone firm yet quiet so not to wake the rest of the house. She finally found the door open and opened the door, “ Don’t you dare disturb me.”

“ Thirty minutes.” He laughed softly, as she backed into her room.

She closed the door and leaned against it. Her chest rising and falling in rapid and ragged breathes. She slammed her eyes shut, trying to steady herself. She cursed him silently, and then cursed herself. How could she have let this happen? And why the hell was everything in her screaming to let it happen again?

She opened her eyes, and let out a half scream half sigh, as she kicked her heel against the door. Damn him. Damn him. Damn him. She was supposed to hate him. Supposed to want to punch him. Not kiss him. Not touch him. Not have him so deep inside of her that she couldn’t think straight.

Asshole, she breathed, throwing a book that was on the desk across the room.

Bastard, she said, and tossed another book against the wall. Trying desperately to keep her mind off of him.

She closed her eyes and picked up the pencil holder, tossing it clear across the room, as she moaned deeply, remembering the way he slammed into her, the way he felt, hot and hard. Her breathing was starting to speed up again. She kicked the desk, hard, not caring how if it hurt. Her eyes slammed open, praying that would be what it took to stop this madness. But it was worse now. He was right. She could taste his lips. Feel his hands. Oh god…how she missed his hands.
She kicked the desk again, and threw the last book that was on the desk across the room. She kicked the desk one last time, before she took a deep breath.

There was nothing left for her to throw, and kicking the desk was no longer working. There was no way she was going to be able to lay down, close her eyes, and make this stop. He was haunting her as it was, she almost feared what he would do to her in her dreams.

She shook her head, and turned around, staring at her closed door. It was taunting her, tormenting her, daring her to open it. To cross the few feet across the hall, knock on his door and jump him.

No, she wouldn’t. She couldn’t.

Why couldn’t she? She wondered as her eyes went wide. Who would know? Why couldn’t go across the hall and let him make love to her until she collapsed? What was stopping her? They’d leave here and never mention this again. Why couldn’t happen?

She didn’t even remember opening her bedroom door, let alone walking out of it. But there she was, standing in front of his door, knocking.

He opened the door before she even finished the first knock.

He was shirtless, standing in the middle of the doorway, smiling a wicked and victorious smile at her. He looked down at his watch, and laughed looking back up at her, “ Fifteen minutes…you must really have been….” He didn’t even get to finish his sentence before she threw her arms around his neck and crushed her lips against his.

She was practically crawling up his body after just a few seconds. Her lips pulling and tugging at his, desperate from him to do as he pleased.

He moaned against her lips, his arms around her waist, as she withering on top of him. He tightened his grip on her, as her tongue greedily forced it’s way into his mouth, and stepped back into his room, closing the door with his foot.

“ Oh…my….” Carmen breathed loudly, as she backed towards the door, her head turned to the side as she tired not to see anymore.

David and Erica were aware of what was going on, but neither was able to do much about it at the moment. They were still riding their releases, their bodies tingling and exploding with life, and neither could move.

Eduardo hurried down the hallway, hearing his wives cry.

David finally took a deep breath, and rolled off of Erica. They didn’t say a word, not to each other, or to Carmen as the fumbled with the bedding, attempting to cover themselves.

“ Carmen….” Eduardo said as he neared the doorway, “ I heard your cry, are you alright?”

She didn’t respond at first, her hand over her mouth to keep from gasping, and her eyes wide with shock.

“ Carmen?” He repeated, a hand on her shoulder.

She nodded this time, but didn’t speak.
“ What is it?” He asked, “ What has happened?” He asked of her, “ Is David alright?”

She nodded again tipping her head towards David’s door.

He looked at her confusedly, and shrugged before raising a hand to the door and pushing it open slowly.

Erica and David were sitting up now, Erica holding a sheet over her, her head in her hands. David sat next to her, trying to comfort her, as he fought back a smile.

Eduardo’s face went immediately into a smile, and he looked at them with wide eyes, mentally telling himself that he was one hell of a match maker. This had worked far faster then he’d ever imagined. “ Well, well, well.” He said, smiling at them, “ David.” He said with a nod and wink, “ Erica.” He acknowledged, but she shook her head in her hands.

“ Eduardo.” David said, his smile winning the battle as he flashed it to Eduardo.

“ Carmen and I were concerned when neither of you came down for breakfast.” He said, not at all embrassed by the whole situation. In fact, he felt like a proud father, who’s son had just hit a Grand Slam in the World Series.

“ I’m sorry to have worried you.” He said, “ We had a long night.”

Erica elbowed him in ribs, her head still in her heads, as she shook her head.

“ So it seems.” He grinned, “ And an even longer morning.” He said, winking at David. “ Don’t worry about breakfast, it will be ready and waiting when you are. Please, take your time and enjoy the morning.” He said, happily, “ I will reschedule your appointments so do not feel the need to rush.” He told them, nodding at them before he turned around.

He was out the door only seconds later, grinning to Carmen as he lead her away from the room. This was far to easy.

David laughed lightly, putting a hand on Erica’s forehead, so he could move her head out her hands. “ Hey, they’re gone.”

“ You’re digusting.” She breathed, as soon as her eyes fell on him and his smile. “ I have never been more humiliated in my life and you don’t seem to mind one bit.” She said, tightening the sheets around her.

He laughed shaking his head, “ You didn’t see the look on Eduardo’s face, Erica. He’s thrilled. He’s probably sorry Carmen got here first. After all, this is the whole reason he brought us down here.”

She shook her head, and scooted away from him, “ You men are all pigs.”

“ Erica, hey,” He said softly, moving a hand to her cheek, “ stop this . Lets just take a few deep breaths and go with all it.”

“ Go with what?” She asked, her eyes burning into his, “ Don’t you even think about touching me again.” She said shaking her head as she started to get out of the bed.

“ Whoa.” He said, taking her forearm and gently pulling her back to him. “ Okay, deep breath.”

She shook her head definatly, and tried pull her arm from his grasp.

“ Take a deep breath, and hear me out. Then I don’t care where you go, or what you do.” He said softly.

“ Fine.” She breathed, through the start of her deep breath. She inhaled dramatically, and then exhaled forcefully.

“ Thank you.” He said, smiling down into her eyes, “ Now, just hear, me out, alright?”

“ You have two minutes.” She breathed, closing her eyes, trying to do anything to minimize the effect of his touch.

“ I know what just happened embarrasses you.” He said softly, “ Anyone would be.” He smiled, “ But you were right, I’m not.” He admitted, “ I missed you Erica. I missed having you in my arms. I missed kissing your lips, and feeling your body next to mine. I missed opening my eyes in the morning, and seeing your beautiful face.” He said softly, tracing soft circles over her cheek with a few fingers. “ The entire Circus could have came through here, and all I would have cared about was you.”

She smiled softly, a few tears welling in her eyes. Damn him. She was embrassed enough as it was when she could convince herself that the Facsinella’s walked in on them having sex, but now that she couldn’t do that anymore, and she was resigned to the fact that she’d just made love to him, she was even more embarrassed. She had feelings for him. That was worse then anything the Facsinella’s had seen.

“ Erica?” David asked softly, “ What?”

She didn’t say anything, she just shook her head, and moved quickly to get out of the bed. To get away from him. To make this all stop. To turn these damned feelings off. She had to get away.

David tried to grab her arm and stop her, but she was out of the bed before he could blink. “ Erica?” He questioned.

But she just shook her head as she went about finding her clothes. “ Don’t talk to me.” She said, stepping into her dress, “ Don’t touch me.” She fired at him, pulling the straps over her shoulders, “ Don’t even look at me.” She finished zipping up her dress. She picked up the rest of her clothing, pointing a heel in his direction, “ I mean it.” She said firmly, “ This was a mistake, and I am disgusted with myself for letting it happen. I will not let it happen again, and if you meant any of what you just said to me, you will do as I ask and leave me alone.” She said.

He opened his mouth to counter, but the door slammed shut before the words got out. He just sat there, dumbfounded. He shook his head, closed his eyes, and laid back against the pillows. He was terrified this would happen, that she’d walk out on him, just like she always did. And she had. She crashed back into his life, his bed, and his heart…and then ripped it out with one swift kick to the face. He covered his face with his hands, and sighed, why did she effect him like this? And how was he going to let her go, again?

Chapter 8

Part I

The was sun was finally falling behind the trees and was reflecting off the water, as the first stars started to dance in the sky.

Erica shook her head as David walked towards the table. She should have known. Of course this was a set up. Eduardo had kept her busy all day, making sure that she was as far away from David as she could be. And he did it with that smile of his. That sweet, and trusting but completely devious smile of his. That man was almost as bad as David.

David shook his head and sighed as he walked over to her. “ Eduardo strikes again.” He said with a soft smile. God she was gorgeous. Her dress was cut much the same way the one from the night before was, only this time, it was strapless and an amazing shade of powder blue. Her hair was curly, and fell softly against her shoulders. She took his breath away.

“ That man is incorrigible.” She said, “ What part of my telling him that the mere sight of you makes me sick, doesn’t he understand?” She asked narrowing her eyes at him.

David shrugged, “ Must be the fact that I have your teeth marks all over me.”

“ You’re such an ass.” She fumed, “ Don’t think for a moment that I will be dining with you.” She said shaking her head, “ I said I want nothing more to do with you, and I meant it.”

“ Whatever you want, Erica.” He said with a frustrated nod, “ Just don’t think that you can knock on my door again tonight.”

“ In your dreams.” She spit out, just about done with him.

“ Oh, I‘ll dream but not about you.” He shot back, a devious grin playing on his lips.

She laughed back at him, “ Well, if you’d rather dream about Dixie Martin, then me, I guess it’s true what they say…”

“ Oh, please enlighten me.” He laughed angrily. God she made him crazy. She made him wild with desire. She made him…feel.

She just laughed and shook her head, “ You’re not worth the explaination.” She said, shaking her head as she moved to turn around.

“ Oh no you don’t.” David said, grabbing her forearm before she could turn around. He didn’t hold her tight, he wasn’t trying to hurt her, he just had to make her listen, damn it. “ What the hell is this, Erica? Hmmm?” He asked.

She shook her head and sighed angrily struggling half heartily to pull her arm from his grasp. “ This is over, David.” She said, looking into his eyes. “ Last night was the worst mistake of my life….”

“ Twenty times over.” He tossed back at her, knowing he was going to get one hell of a rise out of her.

Eduardo and the matre’de watched the scene before them with smiles, and wide eyes. These two people loved with a passion that neither had seen before. Even if they didn’t know it. Eduardo whispered an order in his partner in crime’s ear, and told him to go now, or it could be to late.

“ That’s beside the point….” She countered, “ I must have been termoprialy insane. I hate you.: She said firmly, “ Hate…you.” She said again, drawing out last word.

“ Your table is ready, sir.” The young matrde said with a smile.

“ Thank you, but no thank you.” David said, “ I was just leaving.”

“ Sir?” He questioned, remembering that Eduardo told him that David and Erica would fight him, and this, but he was not to give up until he had them both seated.

“ I seem to have lost my appetite.” He said, “ But I’m sure she’ll stay,” He said pointing to Erica, “ she eats like a horse.” He said, lowering his voice.

“ God, you make me sick.” She hissed, done with all of this.

“ Oh, no, no, Miss Kane, please…please do not go.” The young man said, “ I have your table already. You are here, why not stay and eat?”

She shook her head, “ Not with this trash around.”

“ Oh, I think I’m offended.” He said back to her, a hand over his heart as he pretended to be wounded by her words.

The young man shook his head, and looked over his shoulder at a grinning Eduardo, who merely nodded to him.” This table was reserved just for the two of you. The chef’s have prepared a wonderful meal. We would consider it a personal insult if you were to go now.” He said soft but firmly.

“ Look kid, I get what you’re trying to do, but this isn’t worth it, no matter what Eduardo told you.” David said, “ This was a valiant effort, but it’s not going to work.”

He nodded, “ Eduardo?” He questioned, “ I do not of whom you speak. I was told to seat you two at this table, by the head Chef himself.” He turned his eyes on Erica, “ He is a big fan of yours Miss Kane.”

Erica’s stiff stance softened, and she smiled.

“ Please, just stay and eat.” He said looking at both of them, “ Nothing more is required of you.”

“ Alright.” Erica said, nodding, “ Since the Chef’s did go through so much trouble.”

The young man smiled, and moved to pull out Erica’s chair. He pushed it in for her, and then looked up at David, “ You are to be Miss Kane’s guest.” He said, but David shook his head. “ A lady can not dine alone.” He said to David, smiling softly.

“ Fine.” He breathed, pulling out his chair and sitting down in a huff.

“ Thank you.” The young man said, “ Now, please, just try to enjoy your evening and your food will be here shortly.”

“ We haven’t ordered yet.” Erica said, looking up at him, a confused expression on her face.

“ It’s all been taken care of.” He told them with a knowing grin, before he nodded and walked away.

Erica shook her head, “ Now Eduardo thinks he can order for us.”

David opened his mouth to answer, but the makeshift menu on the table in front of him caught his eye. He read it slowly, and his eyes went wide.

Erica studied his face, her own expression questioning, “ David?”

He shook his head in disbelief, as he picked up the menu so he could read it again.

“ What? What does it say?” She asked, shifting things around on the table to see if she had a copy.
His breath caught in his throat and his heart contracted in his chest. He’d forgotten that he’d called Eduardo before he took Erica on their picnic at the boathouse. Forgotten that his old friend helped him plan the menu.

“ It’s um….” He said, lowering the menu and finally looking at her, “ it’s the same menu….” He stopped not sure he wanted to go there with her. This was a trip down memory lane that if they took, they could end up hurting each other more then they already were.

“ The same menu from?” She questioned, moving her napkin a little to the left and found her menu. “ I don’t see what the big deal could be. I mean it’s just….” She stopped mid sentence, her voice trailing off as she read the menu. “ This is….” She said shaking her head in disbelief, “ David this is everything that you brought when we had a picnic a the boathouse.”

He nodded, “ I would have never pegged Eduardo for the sentimental type.”

She nodded and smiled softly, her mind flashing back to that warm day, and their lovely picnic. “ He sure is going to a lot of trouble.” She said, and slowly raised her head to look at him, and smiled softly.

He flashed her a smile in return and nodded. “ He only goes through this much trouble when he truly believes in something.”

Their eyes locked at that moment, and they held each other’s gaze for a few seconds, neither of them breathing, or speaking. They didn’t need too. They could read each others minds, they always could. It was like they were lost in time. Taken back to a moment when things were simple, things were honest, things were pure.

“ I…” Erica started a few seconds later, tearing her eyes from his, “ How did he know?”

David just stared at her, drinking her in. “ I told him.” He finally said, his eyes never leaving hers.

“ Told him?” She asked, “ You talked to Eduardo about us?” She asked, her smile brightening.

He shrugged and ran a hand through his hair, “ Sometimes.” He admitted with a shy smile, “ I didn’t date, in the sense of the word, before you…I wanted things to be, right.”

Her smile was radiant by that point, seeing the honesty in his eyes, and hearing it in his voice. “ You know, I’m sorry.” She said softly, “ About all of this. This has all been so…”

“ Fast. Unexpected. Unpredictable.” He said, and she nodded.

“ Maybe we could start over?” She suggested, “ Have dinner. Just stop…for tonight.” She offered.

“ I’d like that.” He said, “ We won’t talk or think about last night. We’ll just be here and now.”

“ That sounds lovely.” She said, smiling as she relaxed. She didn’t know where they would end up after this, but she wasn’t going to thank about that. She was just going to enjoy their meal, and her time with him.

An hour later, and their tentative peace treaty was off the table.

They’d made it through dinner at least, he sighed, shaking his head, as he tried to put out the fire he’d lit under her.

“ Go to hell.” She breathed angrily, as she got up from the table. “ I can’t believe I ever thought there was a decent man inside of you.” She said, fuming.

“ Erica….” He said looking up at her as she came around the table.

“ God, I wish I’d never met you.” She fired at him, and he swore he saw tears welling in her eyes, as she threw her napkin into his face and took off.

“ Damn it, Erica….wait.” He said, on his feet almost immediately and following after her.

She was out of the resturant. Through the parking lot, and almost to the beach before he caught up with her.

“ Since when can’t you take a joke?” David said loudly a he came up behind her, “ I guess Jack really did suck the life out of you.”

She stopped, dead in her tracks, and turned around slowly. She didn’t say a word, she just looked at him, tears falling down her cheeks, her eyes sad and blank. “ You heartless bastard.” She cried tearfully, throwing her purse at him.

He moved out of the way, just as the purse was set to strike him. He was lucky he got out of the way, because he wasn’t looking at the purse hurdling towards him. He was looking at her. His heart contracting in his chest at the site of her tears.

“ Erica,” He said, his voice soft as he moved towards her.

“ Leave me alone.” She said firmly, as she whipped back around, and started to walk away from him.

“ Hey, hey…” He said speeding up so he could walk along side of her, “ what’s going on?”

“ Like you care.” She said, trying to walk faster, despite the sand under her feet. She swiped at a few tears shaking her head.

“ I do care. How can you not know that by now?” He asked pointedly, his eyes locked on her.

“ Just go away.” She said, her tears getting stronger.

“ Erica, stop.” He said, moving to stand in front of her.

She shook her head angrily. “ Get out of my way, David.” She demanded.

“ Not until you tell me what’s going on with you.” He said folding his arms across his chest.

She shook her head and tried to move past him, but he moved with her. She released and angry breath and repeated her movements, to the other side now, but he followed her.

“ God, just leave me alone.” She sobbed, her hands clenched in fists, as she pounded on his chest, “ I hate you….” She sobbed, “ I hate myself. I hate Jack. I hate that god forsaken town.” She continued to sob as she pounded her fists against his chest.

He nodded, looking down at her, before taking her wrists in his hands, to stop her. “ Erica….”

“ Let go of me….” She sobbed, starting to lose control now. Starting to be so overcome by her tears that she was going to collapse.

He shook his head and took her into his arms, holding her close. She grabbed fist full’s of his shirt, and sobbed against his chest.

He just held her, and let her cry for a few minutes more, before she release her grip on his shirt and started to pull out of his arms.

“ Feel better?” He asked looking down into her eyes, as he raised a hand to her cheek.

She nodded slowly, “ Yes, thank you.”

“ Always.” He said, moving to remove his jacket. She watched with a soft smile as he took of his jacket, and laid it on the sand, before motioning for her to sit down.

She nodded slowly and flashed him a thankful smile as she sat down. He waited a few seconds, giving her a chance to pull herself together, before he sat down.

“ So, you want to tell me what that was all about?” He asked, his eyes cast out over the water.

“ No.” She said simply.

“ Okay.” He replied, “ But it might help if you talk about tit.”

“ No.” She said again. “ It doesn’t matter. Talking doesn’t change anything.” She sighed, “ All it does it make my failed marriage more public.”

“ I didn’t mean anything, back there, with that crack about your marriage ending.” He said softly, his eyes still cast out over the water.

“ I know.” She breathed, “ It’s not your fault.” She said shaking her head.

“ It’s not yours either.” He replied, finally turning his head, so he could look at her over his shoulder.

“ Ya, and how do you know that?” She challenged.

“ Because I know you. And I know that you wanted your marriage to Jack to be the one that lasted forever. I know you wouldn’t have done anything to jeopardize things.” He answered honestly.

She smiled a little at that, but didn’t say anything.

“ So what did the jackass do?” He asked.

“ Jack didn’t do anything.” She answered, tearing her own eyes from his and casting them out over the water.

“ Erica,” He said, “ Don’t lie to me.”

“ I’m not lying to you, David.” She replied, “ I’m telling you, that Jack did nothing to me.”

He was silent for a few seconds as he tried to put together what she was saying.

“ Part of being married, is being able to be there for your spouse.” She said, she was rambling, an she knew it, but she needed to get this out.

“ Jack wasn’t there for you?” He asked curiously.

“ Emotionally, I suppose.” She shrugged, “ He did the best he could to still be my rock despite….” She stopped, not so sure she wanted to say it anymore.

“ Despite what, Erica?” He asked, turning his body so that he was looking at her. “ Talk to me, Erica.”

“ I wasn’t his wife.” She said sadly. “ I mean, not in the one way that makes a wife different from a mother or a sister.”

David processed what she was saying for a few seconds before he nodded, “ Jack is impotent?”

She nodded, “ I tried to be supportive. I tried to be patient and understanding.” She shook her head, “ I could have learned to live without a physical relationship. But it was the emotional distance I couldn’t take.”

He nodded, “ How long, how long were things like that?

“ Five, six months.” She said, “ I couldn’t connect with him anymore, on any level.”

“ That’s a long time.” He said, shaking his head, “ Half a year.” He said, doing his best to keep a smile from playing on his lips. No wonder she practically begged him for it on the boardwalk, and then jumped him.

“ Thank you for the newsflash.” She breathed, shaking her head.

“ I’m sorry.” He offered even though they both knew he wasn’t. “ Erica, you’re blaming yourself for this, why?”

“ I should have tried harder.” She said, “ I should have tried to help him. Maybe done something to make him want me. I should have fought harder.”

“ Jack as a physical problem, if he let it become an emotional one too, then that is his fault, not yours.”

She nodded slowly, “ I expected this marriage to be the one that took.” She breathed sadly.

He shrugged and nodded, “ Life seems to always have different plans then we do.”

She smiled softly at that, “ How true is that?” She laughed lightly, “ I never expected to be here and with you or all people.”

“ I know.” He nodded, “ This is one hell of a twist of fate.”

She nodded, her smile brighter now. “ I’m starting to wonder if things not working out the way plan, isn’t so bad after all.”

He nodded looking over at her, “ Not all bad.”

“ Thank you, David.” She said, subconsciously moving closer to him.

“ You know that you can always, always lean on me.” He said, raising a few lite fingers to her cheek, “ I’m a heartless bastard Erica, but I will always care about, and you know.”

Erica looked up into his eyes, and her breath caught, at the honesty she saw reflecting back at her. She couldn’t tear her eyes away from his, and she wasn’t sure she wanted too. This didn’t feel wrong anymore. She didn’t feel like she needed to run anymore. She felt safe…she felt alive…she felt, at peace. She took a deep breath and closed her eyes, as she leaned in.

David moaned softly, as Erica’s lips brushed over his.

Her eyes fluttered open, as she pulled back, her lips hovering just over his.

“ Erica?” He breathed, sucking in a breath, as he lips neared his again.

She didn’t reply, she just pressed her lips to his again. Kissing him with all she had.

His arms went slid around her back almost instantly, and he pressed her to him.

She parted her lips, moaned deeply, as he traced his tongue along her bottom lip, before plunging it deep into her waiting mouth.

She was screaming against his lips, as his tongue flicked in an out of her mouth, hard and fast. She was pressed against him, her arms around his neck, and her hands in his hair.

It was a deep hard, sucking kiss. One that they could feel in the tips of their toes, and in the depths of their souls.

David’s hands were burning a fiery path up her back, and edging toward the zipper. His fingers closed around it, as he tugged on her lower lip, he was just about to edge it down, she pulled away.

His eyes fluttered open, his breathing rapid and ragged, as he started to question what was going on. She pulled out of his arms, and was on her feet before he could come out of his haze.

He shook his head, and turned his head, trying to figure out where she went and what was going on.

“ Erica?” He said softly as his eyes landed on the back of her legs where she stood in front of him.

She didn’t say anything, she just stepped out of her heels, and brought her arms around her back, her hands immediately headed toward her dress zipper.

David watched with wide eyes, trying to figure out what she was doing, or planning to do. “ Erica, what are you doing?”

“ Hmmmm….” She said, her fingers tugging at the zipper as it inched down her back. “ going for a swim.”

“ A swim?” David said back to her, a hint of laughter in his voice.

She nodded, the zipper reaching it’s end point. Her hands moved inside her dress as she started to remove it.

David’s breath hitched, and he chewed on his bottom lip. “ Right now?”

She nodded, her dress falling off her back, “ Right now.” She answered as her dress fell over her hips.

“ I take it you don’t want to ruin you dress.” He said a hint of laughter in his voice.

She shook her head, and turned around, stepping out her dress. She turned to face him, clad in nothing more then her white lace bra and panties. “ I’m finally free, David.” She breathed as her hands slid around her back again. “ These last few months….” She shook her head, and he moaned from somewhere deep inside when he heard the clasp of her bra pop open. “ I never got to feel. Or to live. I was just going through the motions….” She continued, sliding her the straps down her shoulders. “ I’m free.” She breathed, as her bra finally fell off enough to reveal her breasts.

He nodded up at her, stunned, shocked, and turned on as hell. “ Erica….” He started, but she laughed lightly, he swore it was almost a giggle and tossed the offending garment at him.
